All About Us – June 2017
“You say Feltham and people say, ‘Oh, the prison’, but it’s not like that. It’s not the way they make it out to be.”
‘All About Us’ was created by Tale Be Told Theatre, in partnership with Feltham Arts. The performance brought together the stories of Feltham, Bedfont and Hanworth residents, to celebrate the area and the local communities that make it what it is today whilst challenging the negative reputation the area has garnered in recent years and the feeling of a lack of community cohesion amongst residents.
‘All About Us’ was a celebration of the diverse cultures that make up Feltham, Bedfont and Hanworth. The play was a verbatim-led, interactive performance shaped by local people thanks to a grant from the Celebrate, Big Lottery Fund.
After successfully applying to the Big Lottery Fund’s Celebrate programme, ‘All About Us’ was developed over a series of community based workshops and events to collate stories of local people.
All the words heard in the play were said by local residents and are true stories in the hope to reflect the people living, working and contributing to the local community. The show followed four characters learning more about their local area, not only understanding but embracing what makes them different and celebrating what it means to be a community.
